St. Francis Xavier with his Jesuit missionaries arrived here in 1542. Apart from the Portuguese, Goa has captivated many from the west, the Turks, the British, the French and the Dutch. Having been the meeting point of races, religions and cultures of East and West over the centuries, Goa has a multi-hued and distinctive lifestyle quite different from the rest of India.
