The village walk leads you through picturesque villages, terraced fields, waterfalls, seasonal streams and pine, cedar, oak and rhododendron forests. Mid February to April is when the rhododendron flowers are in bloom. The walks vary from gentle to slightly steep and take you between altitudes 1450m to 2250m.
Walking on the old village trails you pass through several villages, where the houses have wonderfully carved doors and windows. This itinerary gives you a glimpse into of life of the local Kumaoni folk, where the traditions and culture are still a part of their daily lives. You pass villages where the castes are strictly segregated, walk through terraced fields that still follow traditional channel irrigation systems.
Every where in Kumaon you will come accross people who are friendly, simple, happy to interact with visitors and smile for photographs. While on the walks you will visit ancient Kali, Vishnu and Shakti temples dating back to almost a 1000 years. You will also get to see ancient flour mills that are still operational and used by the Kumaoni hill folk. The Himalayan peaks and valleys offer magnificient backdrops all along the trek, their breath-taking beauty does not allow you to feel any fatigue inspite of walking nearly 5 hours at a stretch.
